Christmas season has arrived. How do I know? Ballet Theatre of Ohio has put on its annual presentation of The Nutcracker at Akron Civic Theatre. What a great way to usher in the season, for young children as well as for those of us that simply want to remain young at heart. Yes, even your teens will enjoy themselves. At least my teen daughter and her friend did.
Seeing dancers of all ages always brings a smile (the itty bitty ones are sure to warm your heart). Plus, the the venue is simply magical, especially with Santa dropping by to listen to the holiday wishes of the kiddos. The Akron Civic Theatre is always decked out for the holidays and it is always fun to see the festive decorations and visit the various vendors selling all things Nutcracker. Doors open one hour before curtain time to provide ample time to meander and shop.
The pre-show highlight for us this year was the large-scale gingerbread rendition of Akron’s well-known and loved Stan Hywett House in celebration of its 100th Anniversary.
If you didn’t make it out for Ballet Theatre of Ohio’s presentation of The Nutcracker this year, be sure to put it on your calendar for next year. I’m certainly happy we did!
